Men Pray at the Tomb of Rachel Our Matriarch in Bethlehem
In the bible we are told that Jacob our Father buried his beloved wife Rachel, not in the Cave of the Machpela in Hevron where the other Fathers and Mothers are buried, but in Bethlehem, "on the way". The reason he did this was that he knew through prophecy that the Children of Israel would pass through Bethlehem on their way from Israel to Babylon and he wanted them to be able to pray at the tomb of Rachel Our Mother so that she could, in turn, pray to the Heavens for mercy for her children.
This is what is written above on the velvet covering of the tomb: "Thus said God, Still your voice from crying and your eyes from tears because there a reward for your action (an answer to your prayer) and your children will return from the land of their enemies ".
We can see from here that the parents have the capacity to pray from the heavens for their children who are still in this world.
If so, in the first year after death, when the children can help their parents to reach their proper place in the Next World by Kaddish or Mishnayot, it is important and worthwhile to recite Kaddish for the deceased. PARTICULARLY BY THE CHILDREN.

We are told in our holy books the following story about the Tana Rabbi Akiva (the husband of Rachel bat Kalba Savua), who was a mentor to Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the creator of the Holy Zohar (Kabbalah):
Rabbi Akiva saw a person who was black from coal. He understood that this person was not alive but from the World of Truth. He understood that he did not even have the merit to reside in Gehinnom as a result of his wrong deeds. He asked him "Why are you so black?". The man answered him that he was black because he did not merit achieving repentance in the World of Truth. Rabbi Akiva asked him, "How can I help you achieve repentance"? The man answered him, "I left a son in this world. If he says Kaddish for my soul it will help me reach true repentance in the Next World".
It is written that Rabbi Akiva started to search for the son of this man in many cities. He found him. The son did not know how to pray, so Rabbi Akiva himself (or his students) started to teach him to pray and asked him to say Kaddish for his own father.
Rabbi Akiva told his students that after the son recited Kaddish for his father, the father came to Rabbi Akiva in a dream and thanked him for giving him "Life" in the Afterworld.

Here is a true historical story which is documented in Jewish books:
There was once a widow whose husband passed away and left her with small children who could not recite Kaddish. The widow paid men to say Kaddish for her husband. When the year of mourning was over she decided to pay for Kaddish to be recited for those who have noone to say Kaddish for them.
Later on in life, when she needed to marry off her children, she did not have enough money to do so. She was very sad and prayed for God to help her. On her way to the synagogue one day a man saw her in her sadness and asked her why she looked so sad. She explained the problem. This man wrote her a check for a large sum and instructed her to go to a particular bank to cash it. She went to the bank and presented the check to cashiers. The cashiers were suspicious after seeing such a large sum and called over the manager. They presented the check to the manager, who asked her when she received the check and could she identify a picture of the person who gave it to her. She answered him that she had received it the day before from the person whose picture was hanging on the wall of the manager's office!
The bank manager told her that the picture on the wall if of his father who had died 20 years previously. He told her that his father had come to him in a dream the night before and told him that a woman would be bringing him a check of a certain amount and to please cash the check because this woman had paid money for Kaddish to be said for his soul, thereby helping him immensely. Therefore, he wanted to help her marry off her children. Obviously, the bank manager gave the widow the full amount for the check written by his father!!
